Why Amish Furniture?

The Amish derive their name from  Jakob Ammann. In the 1690s he
and his followers broke away from the Mennonites and formed the
better known branch of the Anabaptists.

The Amish started migrating to North America in the 1720s and settled in
eastern Pennsylvania. Today there are more than 150,000 Amish living
throughout the United States, Canada and Central America.

Although the Amish have communities in many states, about 80 percent of
them are located in Ohio, Indiana and Pennsylvania. What they're probably
best known for is their aversion to modern technology, such as electricity
and automobiles. What they are almost as well known for is their quality products.

The Amish are known for the quality of their workmanship. All the drawers
in their hardwood furniture have dovetail joints, and there's absolutely no
particle board used in any of the furniture. Even the side panels on the hutches
and desks are glued-up solid boards.

The workmanship is the key to Amish furniture. Small shops with fewer than
a dozen employees concentrate on quality, and flexibility. Most of the shops
will do custom work.

Quite simply, the quality of Amish furniture makes it the right choice.
